2012 Martin OMJM John Mayer Lefty
Serial # 1637851, #2319. The OMJM is the second signature model that CF Martin and John Mayer have worked together to create. Mayer's first signature model, the OM-28JM, was an expensive instrument that was built in very limited numbers -- making it quite inaccessible to most the artist's large fan base. Today's OMJM features many of the same attributes as that first signature model, but is a more affordable instrument and is produced in an unlimited but numbered sequence.
The guitar is built with quarter sawn Indian rosewood back and sides and an Engelmann spruce top, hybrid scalloped bracing, gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish with aging toner, vintage style 28 zigzag back strip, grained ivoroid binding, herringbone purflings and beveled-edge tortoise pickguard. The abalone rosette is borrowed from Style 45, and the neck features simple dot inlays but with an added slotted diamond at the 12th fret and John Mayer's signature at the 19th fret. Two-piece mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard and rosewood headstock overlay, vintage style decal in silver and black, gloss-finished headstock, and aged nickel vintage style Gotoh tuners.
The guitar features a particularly easy to play low-profile rounded neck with a 1-11/16" bone nut, OM scale length of 25.4", and a compensated Tusq saddle. Martin Gold Plus Natural 1 factory installed pickup.
A lovely sounding guitar, with a deep and rich voice, open mid-range and excellent balance. It's a versatile all-around guitar that's an excellent flatpicker, strummer, and fingerstyle instrument. It's in excellent condition but for a pair of dings on the back of the neck at the 8th fret. Set-up at Folkway, it plays perfectly.
With original hardshell case.
