c.1933 Dobro Model 37
Serial # 5453. The Dobro Model 37 isn't near as common as the 27 thanks to its higher price tag, and it's not one that's often found on the vintage market. It's a strikingly attractive instrument, featuring a bound mahogany body, mahogany neck, a bound rosewood fingerboard, and a dark sunburst finish throughout.
A completely original instrument, and one in very fine condition with a beautifully aged patina. A round-neck Dobro, built originally for 'Spanish' style playing, today the instrument is usable only for lap-style Hawaiian, which it sounds great at. The cone has compacted from overtightening, but the guitar still plays well and rattle-free. At some point a screw was added to further fasten the neck to the body, but the work to disguise this addition is matched so well with the original finish, that we suspect that it might have been done at the factory. It's otherwise in excellent condition.
