David Martin Concert Mahogany
Our latest offering by David Martin is an all-mahogany Concert model with masterfully executed detail work and finish, a light and responsive build, and a wonderfully comfortable neck carve with fingerstyle geometry. Martin is highly regarded around here for his meticulous attention to detail; his purfling mitres are precise, his neck carve is both graceful and defined by a remarkable symmetry, and his fretwork and setup are top-tier. And, with his light-handed approach to bracing and plate thickness, his guitars have a remarkably open and inviting tone.
The concert model is roughly the size of a Classical guitar, with a lower-bout that measures just over 14.5” across, and a body depth of 4.5” at the endbock. It features tapered Sitka X bracing and a small maple bridge plate, a petite ebony bridge and a scale length of 25.3”. Ebony fingerboard with gold mother of pearl dot markers, 16” radius, and 1-3/4” nut width. String spread at the bridge is a fingerstyle-friendly 2-5/16”, and the guitar’s neck is carved with a medium C profile. Finished entirely with a Gunstock Oil/Wax hand-rubbed blend for maximum responsiveness and feel. Herringbone top purflings, hand-made rosewood bindings with mahogany and rosewood side and back purflings; mahogany, maple, and rosewood rosette. Tortoloid pickguard, and matching Waverly bridge and endpins.
An open and expressive guitar with a dry and articulate front-end that’s coupled with the sustain and overtone development of an older and more mature instrument. It has a lovely warmth and a bigger-than-you’d expect bass response that’s balanced by strong and full trebles. A fingerstyle guitar of the highest quality.
With deluxe double-arched hardshell case
