1929 Gibson TB-00 Conversion

A skillfully converted mid 1930’s Gibson TB-00. Flamed maple neck made by Toronto’s Bruce Dowd; flange and tension hoop made by Bill Sullivan from the original Gibson dies; and 1980’s flathead Tennesse 20 tone ring by Sullivan and Cox. The figured maple resonator was built to pre-war specifications, and the instrument is finished in a rich tobacco brown sunburst lacquer. The tailpiece is a 20’s Waverly, and the head and bridge are by Snuffy Smith.

This banjo has a Scruggs type sound with lots of volume, and a bright snap. The neck is carved with a little extra width for some more roominess and guitar-size fretwire for responsive fingering. Nut width measures 1-3/8”.

The banjo is set-up well and is in very fine condition. There is a fine crack in one of the flange’s windows that’s been there for years, we’ve been told. A 5th string capo bar has been installed on the neck.
