1962 Gretsch 6119 Tennessean
The 6119 Tennessean is among the most recognizable Gretsch models thanks to its association with George Harrison who, in 1963, started using one that was quite similar to the instrument shown here. The Tennessean featured a thin hollow body with single cut-away, painted-on F holes on a reddish Walnut finish, Bigsby tailpiece and HiLo’tron pickups. It was designed as a lower-priced offering in the Chet Atkins signature model lineup and was built with simple appointments and without back bindings.
This example is in excellent condition and is completely original. It was refretted about 15 years ago here at Folkway and had a TonePros Tune-O-Matic bridge and ebony base fitted to it at that time to allow for improved intonation. The original bar bridge and base are in the case pocket.
Not much playwear to note, frets remain in great shape, and the guitar was just set-up in our shop. The action is set at a comfortably low 5/64ths with little to no further downward adjustment available.
1-11/16” nut width, low D neck carve, 24.75” scale. Excellent Bigsby feel and response, well balanced HiLo’Tron pickups, and all original electronics work well.
With original hardshell case
