Introduced in 1946, the Pro-Amp was the largest amplifier in Fender's then three-model line. The Pro boasted a pair of 6L6 tubes putting out approximately 18-25 watts of power, and a 15" Jensen speaker, housed in a polished wooden cabinet. A year later, the Pro-Amp was redesigned to be housed in a "T.V.-Front" pine-cabinet covered in tweed, marking it as one the first tweed amplifiers to be produced by Fender.

With its nicely-aged original tweed covering, grille cloth, and metal hardware, this 1949 Pro-Amp is a beautiful example of an early TV-Front Fender amplifier. The amplifier retains both of its original transformers, and sports an array of vintage tubes from different eras that all test well. The original speaker has been replaced with a JBL K140. The original leather handle has long since failed, and a replacement installed.

Recently serviced by Dom Tantalo in Toronto, the amplifier has received a full cap update and health check, and is now in excellent working order.

This 1949 Fender Pro Amp is a wonderful-sounding amplifier that responds particularly well to humbucker and P-90 style pickups, delivering full-bodied, clear Fender cleans at low volumes, and rich, creamy break-up when pushed. Beyond that, we think it’s pretty darn cool to have a Fender amp that pre-dates the company’s first Telecaster and all the music that came with it.
