Dana Bourgeois has always been a proponent of the OM and has been crafting some of the finest modern OMs since building the now-prized Martin/Schoenberg instruments in the late 1980's. His guitars continue to be finely crafted, excellent sounding instruments, with design elements evolving from 40 years of building.
This Vintage OM features an Adirondack Red spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, finely scalloped braces, and pre-war inspired appointments. Herringbone purflings, Ivoroid bindings, zig-zag back strip, and belly bridge dress up the instrument nicely, along with a tortoise-celluloid bevel-edged pickguard and Waverly tuners. Gloss lacquer finish, slotted diamond fingerboard inlays, and Ivoroid pins finish things off.
The guitar is in excellent condition, showing very light playwear to its finish and light/medium wear to its first 3 frets. Playability is excellent, with a fresh in-shop set up with 12s and an action of 5-6 64ths with a full height saddle. It has a very forward voice, with excellent volume and power, well balanced strings, big-sounding bass and strong, rounded trebles. It’s a competent a flatpicker and fingerpicker and quite a winner in all categories, by our account. 25.4" scale, 1-3/4" nut, 2-1/4” string spacing at the bridge. Very soft V neck carve with a 1st fret neck depth of .810”.
