Martin’s J-40 has long been one of our favorite Martin models, but has been made even better with the 2025 redesign of the Standard Series. The Y25 Martin J-40 now features Golden Era forward positioned scalloped Sitka bracing, a GE-Modified low oval neck carve with rolled fretboard edges and a 1930s inspired long volute, an angled-bottom nut, and bone bridge pins. The J-40 is a dressy model, with a pearl CF Martin vertical headstock logo, hexagon fretboard inlays, pearl rosette, mosaic backstrip, and multi-ply fretboard and headstock bindings borrowed from the Style 45; and multi-line top, back, and side purflings similar to a D-35; and gold hardware, bevelled tortoise pickguard and pearl-dot pins just to fancy things up a little bit more.
The Jumbo features a 16” curvy body with Dreadnought depth. It pumps out the power and the bass, but because it’s not TOO big, there is a solid treble string response too. It’s a great strummer that can hold its own when flatpicked, and it mellows out perfectly when played lightly or fingerstyle.
Sitka spruce and rosewood body. 25.4” scale neck, 1-3/4” nut, .820 or so at the 1st fret and 2-5/32” string spread at the saddle.
With deluxe hardshell case.
Individual instruments may vary in appearance.
