Collings MTO Gloss Blacktop
A custom-ordered Collings MTO, with jet-black gloss lacquered top and ivoroid top binding. Yes, it’s a stunning instrument.
Highly figured maple back, sides, and neck finished in a deep red satin lacquer. Ebony headstock overlay, bridge and radiused fretboard, bone nut, cast nickel-plated tailpiece and nickel-finished tuners. The current model in stock was ordered with black buttons. X braced spruce top with bound oval soundhole. 1-3/16” width at the nut, 13-7/8” scale.
The instrument has the classic warmth of an oval-hole A, but with the power and projection you’d expect of a Collings. It’s a much thicker and darker-toned instrument than an F-holed mandolin and would certainly appeal to instrumentalists of all musical leanings.
