Introduced in 1953, the Guild X-500 sat at the top of the line in the company's electric archtop range. A fully hollow-body 17" electric archtop, the X-500 drew heavily on inspiration from Epiphone's Zephyr Deluxe Regent, with its use of spruce and maple for tone woods, Venetian cutaway, laminated maple and walnut neck, V-block fingerboard inlays, and multi-ply binding. The model evolved very little from its inception into the late 1960s, with a few minor cosmetic updates and several pickup variants the only changes to note.

A fine example of a late '60s instrument from the company's Hoboken factory, this 1968 Guild X-500 Stuart remains in excellent condition and is completely original. The rich three tone sunburst finish has matured beautifully, showing its age in the form of light crazing and minor chips and dents throughout. There is an attractive patina to the gold hardware that blends perfectly with the natural aging of the guitar's finish. The only notable flaw is a finish blemish at the neck heel, possibly the result of a reaction with a guitar strap.

Equipped with a pair of Guild's HB-1 humbucker pickups with matched resistance readings of 7.0K, this Stuart X-500 offers tones that are full, harmonically rich, and powerful, with a bit more top-end presence than one would expect from an era-equivalent Gibson archtop. The guitar boasts a comfortable C neck carve with a first fret depth of 0.834" tapering up to 0.910" at the ninth.

The guitar weighs 7 lbs 10oz lbs 24-3/4" scale length. 1-5/8" nut width. Pots are dated the 1st week of 1967 (134 6701).

With original hardshell case.
