The Northfield NFO-AT3 Wavelength Octave Mandolin is the world’s first short-scale octave mandolin that was designed from the ground up for a 19” scale length. The designers at Northfield specifically sized the body’s air-chamber, the top’s braces, and the body-to-neck weight ratios to create an octave mandolin that performs better than anything else out there, and we’re of the opinion that they knocked it out of the park. The Wavelength is amazingly warm, open, and rich. Its voice is balanced and expressive, and it offers a sustain that will inspire songwriters and solo instrumentalists.
The NFO-AT3 Wavelength features a Virginian red spruce top and Michigan figured maple back, sides, and neck. The fretboard and adjustable bridge are ebony, and the entire instrument is finished in a matte spirit varnish. The neck has a nut width of 1-3/8”, a soft V carve, and a compound radius fretboard for maximum comfort. Gotoh tuners, black bindings, and nickel plated Northfield/Gilchrist tailpiece.
