Northfield instruments offer serious mandolin players a beautifully built, excellent-sounding, highly detailed traditional F5 at a price-point that, while not inexpensive, is significantly less than anything comparable. Folkway Music is proud to be Northfield's only Canadian dealer.
The S-Series F5 is a simply appointed instrument that is built to the same exacting specifications as Northfield's more expensive Artist Series models. The mandolin features figured hand-graduated hard maple back and sides and master-grade Adirondack red spruce top, traditional tobacco sunburst lacquer satin finish, ivoroid-bound top and unbound back. The neck features a radiused ebony fingerboard with scooped end, fiddleback maple with 1920's carve, and a very tasteful fine inlay around the headstock's perimeter. Bound ebony finger rest, cast tailpiece, Loar-style adjustable bridge, and Gotoh tuners. This example is a wide-nut version with a nut width of 1-3/16” rather than the typical 1-1/8”. The extra 1/16” offers noticeably more room between the string courses, making the tighter mandolin nut width easier to navigate, particularly for those musicians coming from a guitar-playing background.
Each Northfield NFS-F5AWN is offered with a high-quality Airloom Recurve case.
