2007 Martin D-28 Marquis Madagascar

The Madagascar rosewood Martin D-28 Marquis offered all the design elements of the company’s now discontinued Golden Era instruments but substituted Madagascar for Brazilian rosewood back and sides.

The instrument is built with Golden Era scalloped, forward shifted Adirondack spruce braces, Adirondack spruce top, and Madagascar rosewood back and sides. Vintage-style Herringbone purflings, grained ivoroid bindings, zig-zag back strip, gloss Nitrocellulose lacquer finish. 1935 profile ebony bridge and fingerboard with long-pattern vintage diamond and square inlays. Fossil ivory angled bottom nut, glued-in through-saddle, and black-dot bridge pins; polished, beveled edge pickguard. Vintage-inspired modified V neck carve, 1-3/4" wide at the nut, 1930's style 'Dart' volute, 1930's style decal logo, Gotoh SE-700 open geared tuners with vintage finish, C.F. Martin & Co. stamp on the headstock rear.

This Martin D-28 Marquis has had the better part of two decades to open up and mature, and has done so remarkably well. It's a dark and resonant flatpicker with incredible power, well defined bass, thick trebles, and a strong rumble through the midrange.

The guitar is in excellent condition overall and shows minimal playwear to its finish. There are a few scuffs on the bass side of the headstock from a peghead winder, the front of the headstock has glossed up a bit from eager cleaning, and the original frets show some pitting under the E and B strings up to the 5th fret. Playability remains excellent and buzz-free. With an LR Baggs HiFi pickup and neck heel strap button recently installed by our repair shop, this D-28 Marquis is gig ready.

Scale length of 25.4". First fret depth of 0.841", twelfth fret depth of 0.938", 1-3/4" nut width, string spacing of 2-5/16".

With original hardshell case.
