A stunning Northfield Big Mon that’s trimmed with tortoise celluloid bindings to its body, fretboard, headstock and pickguard and a gloss amber finish. We’ve spec’d this one with an Adirondack spruce top, and a wider 1-3/16” nut width.

Northfield’s Big Mon features a slightly enlarged body that’s tuned for responsiveness and a rich voice. The design changes are quite subtle, but the tone difference between the Big Mon and a standard-size Northfield F are quite apparent. Expect an F5 with stronger mids and lows, and more openness in the bass register.

In creating this model, Northfield designers expanded the lower bout by 5mm, or a little bit more than 3/16”, and proportionally increased the body depth and the scroll dimensions to ensure the instrument looks as attractive as a standard sized F5. The Big Mon features modified recurve dimensions and back thicknesses as well, to bring forth the growly midrange that this model has become famous for. The hybrid varnish finish is the final ingredient in the Big Mon recipe and offers more flexibility than nitrocellulose lacquer.

This Big Mon is built with highly figured maple and Adirondack spruce. The ebony fingerboard has a compound radius, large frets, and a scoop beyond the 20th fret. The pickguard matches the tortoise-celluloid bindings, complete with white purfling highlight. Ebony adjustable bridge, Gilchrist/Northfield hinged tailpiece, pearl headstock inlays, and nickel Grover tuners.

With Recurve case.
