Gibson's CF-100E and its acoustic twin the CF-100 were built through the 1950s and have the honour of being the first cutaway flat-top and first cut-away electric flat-top acoustic guitars ever built by Gibson. The CF-100 shared the LG-2's body and build, but with gussied up Les-Paul style inlays, pearl headstock logo and crown inlay, and a pointy Florentine cutaway. The CF-100E added a P-90 pickup at the end of the fingerboard and top-mounted volume and tone controls.

With its all-solid construction and X braced top, the CF-100E is a far superior sounding guitar than the larger and much more heavily built J-160E and holds its own played acoustically. It's a cut-away LG-2 after all and shares that guitar's midrange-y tonal characteristics. Plugged in, the P-90 offers a clean and clear electric tone that's perfect for blues and jazz. The pickup is a full-size P-90 – it just doesn't look that way from the outside! It’s wired to the same harness as what was in a contemporary Les Paul Jr, but is without the latter’s string ground so some 60 cycle hum is to be expected.

This guitar is in great condition. Apart from a few rather insignificant short side cracks it would be called crack free, and with the exception of new frets and replacement tuner buttons care of our shop, it’s 100% original, too.

Original tuners, pins, and saddle. Original unmodified electronics. Original finish throughout with playwear as shown in the photos. The guitar is set up with 12-54 Monels, which offer great acoustic tone while being magnetic enough to get the P-90 to sound great as well.

The neck has a round carve, 1-11/16” nut and a first fret thickness of .875”. Scale length is 24.6” and the string spread at the saddle is 2-1/8”. The P-90 has a DC resistance of 7.6K. The action is set at 5-7 64ths with a nearly full-height saddle.

With hardshell case.
