A 16" carved spruce archtop with maple back and sides, the L-50 was among Gibson’s most popular models in the early post-war years. As acoustic archtop sales began to wane in the mid-’50s with the rise of rock ’n’ roll, production of the L-50 followed suit. Just 145 were shipped in 1960 - a sharp drop from the nearly 1,420 shipped a decade earlier. Sales continued to decline through the 1960s, and the L-50 was ultimately discontinued in 1971.

A beautifully preserved Gibson from the dawn of the 1960s, this L-50 is an incredibly clean and almost completely-original instrument with relatively few flaws. The Sunburst finish shows light crazing, minimal wear, and only a few small chips and dents. There is an area of vinyl strap-caused damage on the body’s back and a small strap-button screw hole repair on the side of the body, about an inch off the neck heel. The tuners are nice replacements, and the frets are brand new.

With a powerful voice, defined bass, rich mids, and rounded trebles, this 1960 Gibson L-50 is a particularly good sounding budget archtop. String balance is notably good, and the guitar offers ample projection.

Expect a late '59 neck profile that is remarkably comfortable. With brand-new frets installed in our shop, the guitar delivers a fantastic playing experience across the fingerboard.

Scale length of 24.75". First fret depth of 0.863", ninth fret depth of 0.956", and a 1-11/16" nut width. Weight of 4lbs 9oz.

With TRIC case.
