The Collings 470 JL was devised in close conjunction with guitar prodigy/virtuoso Julian Lage and is unlike any other electric in the Collings lineup. Custom-designed from the ground up, the 470JL features a fully hollow one-piece mahogany body with a trestle center-block and laminated maple top for light weight and feedback resistance, and a super-thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish with a slightly antiqued patina. The neck has a unique carve with a deep and round C/V hybrid shape, a nut of 1-11/16”, 24-7/8” scale, 12” radius fingerboard, and a flush cutaway. The model is outfitted with a pair of custom Ron Ellis "Ellisonic" pickups.
A recent Collings that was sold new through Folkway and has since seen little more than a few hours of playtime, this 2022 left-handed 470 JL presents in like-new condition. There is no evidence of playwear to the finish, and the frets are completely unworn. As is typical of a Collings instrument, the fit and finish of this guitar is superb.
An outstanding vintage-inspired modern guitar, this Collings 470 JL Lefty is a truly remarkable instrument. The pair of Ellisonic pickups offer the clarity and articulation of a great Telecaster pickup, combined with the power and dynamic response of a DeArmond Dynasonic. The result is a wonderfully touch-sensitive instrument with a full-bodied, harmonically rich voice that retains excellent cut and note separation. The guitar offers a dreamy playing experience thanks to its heavenly neck carve and perfect fret work.
