The Gibson Custom Crimson team is comprised of the Custom Shop’s uppermost echelon of instrument builders. They form a small subset of the company’s Custom Shop luthiers who are “held to the highest standards of craftsmanship and creativity” according to Gibson literature. Crimson-certified instruments come in all styles, designed and appointed individually by each Crimson Team builder. Presented here is a Custom Crimson Super 400 CES completed in 2014 and signed by archtop builder James R. Culbertson on January 24th of that year.
An exquisite offering from Gibson Custom, this 2014 Super 400 CES is a finely built and lavishly appointed electric archtop that exemplifies the scale of craftsmanship Gibson's luthiers are capable of. Featuring a solid carved spruce top, heavily figured maple back and sides, multi-layer binding on the top, sides, back, neck, and pickguard, gold-plated hardware, split rectangle inlays, front and back headstock inlays, engraved Super 400 tailpiece, and an 18" body, this Super 400 CES is quite the sight to behold.
A lightly used and well cared for instrument, this decade-old Gibson archtop is in very good condition overall, with only light playwear. A few small dents and light scuffing are the guitar’s only blemishes, along with light tarnishing to the gold plated hardware. The frets are largely unworn and deliver clean playability across the fingerboard.
The guitar’s neck has a round and full C shape with a 1-11/16” nut and first fret depth of .860”. The pickups are Gibson ’57 Classics, with DC readings of 7.9k and 8.4k. The guitar weighs 8lbs 1oz.
With original hardshell case, COA, and case documents.
