Crafted in Toyama, Japan, Fujii Guitars are highly regarded examples of modern Japanese acoustic lutherie. Master builder Keisuke Fujii spent 11 years apprenticing under renowned Japanese luthier Kenji Sugita, followed by specialized training in archtop and nylon-string construction at Marchione Guitars, before opening his own workshop in 2012. Fujii is known among collectors and fingerstyle players for his precise joinery, distinct aesthetic details like signature mosaic rosettes and contoured headstocks, and use of native Japanese tonewoods. Delivering exceptional note clarity, balanced low-end resonance, and comfortable playability, a Keisuke Fujii guitar is a meticulously built instrument that offers extraordinary tone and expressiveness.

This example, built in 2017, features a 15” wide cut-away body of Amazon rosewood and red spruce. The top is X braced with a unique finger and tonebar layout, and the back is fairly traditionally ladder-braced. Fujii’s craftsmanship is clearly apparent in the guitar’s details and design, from the carved headstock and bridge, to the ergonomic flush-heel, and on to the mitred half-herringbone bindings and inlaid rosette.

The guitar remains in perfect condition and presents as near-new. There is no playwear to the finish and just a touch of wear on the frets. The set-up is fresh and playability is excellent, with low fingerstyle action.

Amazon rosewood front headstock overlay, Keyaki rear overlay, bindings, and heel-cap. Amazon rosewood fretboard and sculpted bridge. Gotoh 510 tuners, bone nut and saddle. Gloss lacquer finish throughout.

Round neck with a 1-23/32” nut width (43.5mm), 2-5/16” (58mm) string spread at the saddle. Scale length of 25.4”.

The guitar has a vintage-meets-modern voice, with classic X braced bass handling, power, and note separation, and a modern top end that is both clean and full sounding with a touch of extra presence in the upper mids. Overtones are present but in check, and the guitar plays with a clean, but not clinical, response. It has excellent volume and headroom, and offers a slight compression that brings more presence a lighter-attack.

With original hardshell case.
