It's no secret that Gibson J-45s produced in the early to mid 1960s are among the finest rhythm guitars to be found, and this 1965 build is no exception. With its beautiful strummed tone, pretty sunburst finish, comfortable neck profile, and excellent playability, this J-45 has a lot going for it. The original adjustable bridge and plywood bridge plate have been professionally replaced, and the guitar has been partially refretted by our repair shop. 

A wonderful-sounding example of a mid-'60s slope-shoulder, this 1965 J-45 delivers a warm and open voice with classic Gibson "thump" in the low end, scooped mids, full-bodied trebles, and a natural compression that makes it a truly incredible strummer. With a light to medium attack in the right hand, the natural compression takes over and allows the guitar's best tonal elements to shine through. 

This particular J-45 features Gibson's transition nut width of 1-5/8", a short lived feature that filled the gap between the pre-1965-spec 1-11/16" width and the skinny 1-9/16" width associated with the late 1960s. If you're an electric player used to a Stratocaster or Telecaster, you will feel right at home with this J-45 as the string spacing at the nut is identical. With it's first fret depth of 0.822" at the first fret, tapering up to 0.934" at the ninth, and a rounded C carve, the neck is quite comfortable. 

This J-45 is crack free and largely original. The Cherry Sunburst has faded tastefully over the last six decades. Typical dents, chips, scratches, and crazing consistent with a 60-year-old guitar can be found throughout the finish. The bridge pins and endpin were replaced in our repair shop. Our repair team replaced the first five frets and shimmed the original nut. A few top braces were reglued in-house. We've set-up the guitar with 12-53 strings and action set at 4.5-6/64ths at the twelfth fret. The tuners, nut, truss-rod cover, pickguard, and finish are all original.
