The Fender Vibro Champ Amp was released in 1964 as an upgrade from the company’s top-selling Champ model. Apart from the Vibrato circuit, the two amplifiers were nearly identical, with similar wattage, the same speaker and tube complement, and the same cabinet size.
This 1965 Vibro Champ is in very good condition. The original black tolex, grill cloth, control panel, and logo are all very well preserved. The output transformer is dated to the 13th week of 1965. The earlier 125P1A Schumacher power transformer dated to mid-1962, is a bit of a mystery. Fender used this model of transformer in 5F1 Champs shortly before they were redesigned in 1964. While it's uncommon to see such a wide date gap on Fender amplifier parts in this era, it is entirely possible that this was a leftover part that Fender opted to use. The original speaker has been replaced, and the handle and chassis mounting brackets are modern parts.
This mid-'60s Vibro Champ is an excellent sounding small amplifier. The tone is focused yet rich, and the amp breaks up beautifully when pushed to higher volumes. The tremolo is in perfect working order, delivering a lush and consistent response.
