1937 Gibson L-00
With all the bluesy punch one could ask for, some seriously cool looks, and fresh-off-our-bench playability, this 1937 Gibson L-00 won’t leave anyone wanting for more. It’s a great sounding mid-30’s version of the model, with a chunky V neck and lots of power, and it’s a seriously fun ragtime blues picker.
Neck reset, replacement bridge and saddle, and one brace repair were all just taken care of here, and the guitar’s action is sitting at an easy-playing 4-6 64ths with unworn original frets. This L-00 was likely long-played Hawaiian style with a nut riser, leaving the original frets free of playwear. Original tuners, nut, pins, and finish. The original bridge had been bolted to the top and otherwise ruined enough to toss, but the replacement is as close to the real thing as they get. The guitar is essentially crack-free as the only crack-like issue is a relatively insignificant one on the back’s lower bout ½” off the side. Structurally, this guitar scores high marks. The finish is flaking off sections of the top, but looks pretty cool, so we don’t mind all too much.
Mahogany and spruce, X bracing, short scale, and a V-neck. Standard L-00 specs. 1-3/4” nut, 2-3/8” at the bridge, 24.75” scale.
