1993 Gibson Les Paul Classic Plus
The Gibson Les Paul Classic Plus was introduced in 1993 as an upgraded and more expensive version of the Classic, which itself was a higher-end offering than the Standard. With its extra-figured top, 1960 neck carve, and press-fit bushings, the Classic was differentiated from the 1993 Historic reissue only by its ‘classic’ truss rod cover and headstock wording, thicker binding in the cutaway and uncovered pickups. The Plus model was offered without a pickguard to help show off the maple that much better. We suspect this example was built as a ‘Premium Plus’ model, but might have just predated that model designation by a few months.
A fabulously attractive Les Paul that’s in equally attractive condition, this Classic shows very little playwear to its frets and finish and is completely original.
For those keeping track, this one is stamped ‘Classic Plus’ in the bridge pickup cavity.
At 8.3 lbs, it’s a wonderfully light Les Paul. One-piece mahogany body, highly figured maple top, rosewood fingerboard with cream binding and pearloid trapezoid inlays. ABRII Bridge, 490 pickups, light tobacco sunburst finish.
With original hardshell case
