1980 Gibson ES-335TD Lefty

Here’s a rare and quite wonderful left handed Gibson ES-335TD from 1980. It’s a great sounding lefty with a fast feel and hot humbuckers.

In the late 1970s Gibson returned to a full-width neck and changed from the earlier unpotted T-Top pickups to the company’s new ceramic-magnet epoxy sealed pickups designed by legendary pickup maker, Bill Lawrence. These new humbuckers were designed to offer better balance between neck and bridge pickups, more bite in the lead position, and less low-end mud in the rhythm. Gibson also added a coil cut switch on the upper bouts of all their 335s at that time.

This example is in great shape and offers excellent playability. Playwear is minimal, the only noticeable finish wear is on the side of the guitar where it might rest on your leg when playing seated. The set-up was done here at Folkway, and feels just right. The stop tailpiece is not original but is a welcomed upgrade from the original trapeze tailpiece. The tuners and nut are replaced as well, but the balance of the guitar is factory stock.

Dark sunbust-finished maple laminate body with single-ply white bindings, three-piece maple neck with bound rosewood fingerboard. Pearloid block markers, nickel hardware. 1-11/16” nut width, .786” depth at the 1st fret, thickening up to .940” at the 9th. 8-3/4 lbs.

With original hardshell case.
