An exciting 00-sized 12 fret Collings with Traditional package appointments and design, this 001T is steeped in 1930’s vibe, tone, and feel but is built with the precision, intonation and playability of the best guitarmaker in the world.
Sitka spruce top with scalloped braces, a lighter build and abbreviated bridge plate; mahogany back and sides, wooden purflings, rosette, and bindings; extra-thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish, bone nut and saddle, and tortoise-style pins. The 12-fret Traditional-series neck is built with a unique neck support that emulates the tone of Martin’s T-bar support rods used between 1934 and 1967. It also features a vintage taper that sets the string-spread at 2-5/16” at the saddle. Scale is 24-7/8”, and the nut width is 1-3/4”. The traditional neck carve has a C shape in the first position that transitions to a soft V further up the neck. The depth at the first fret is .825”, which gives the neck a full-feel but remains fairly contemporary overall.
The guitar is warm and woody and offers a well-defined and supportive midrange and a touch of darkness. The trebles and upper mids are bold and forward, typical of most 12 fret 00-sized guitars. Expect a dry and focused voice, surprising volume, and excellent headroom.
