1969 Gibson SG Standard
The Angus Young SG Standard, although his was from 1968. This ’69 Gibson SG Standard is a great sounding large-guard version with a first year ‘embryonic’ headstock volute that’s about half the size of those found on later necks. The guitar is in great shape and without any issues other than newer frets and a tiny repaired crack at the output jack.
The guitar’s neck has a deep and round carve that make it feel significantly larger than it measures. The nut width is the typical 1-9/16” of the day, but with a 1st fret depth of .855” and a quick taper to 1.073” at the 12th fret, you’d be hard press to think this is a skinny neck Gibson if your eyes were closed. It’s a great feeling neck.
Original electronics, with pots that are dated the 34th week of 1969 (which was, incidentally, exactly when the Woodstock music festival happened), and patent number humbuckers that both measure 7.9k. The guitar weighs in at 7.6lbs.
In well-played but excellent condition, there are no neck issues to report on, the hardware is all original, and playability is excellent. The frets are .100” by .042”, nicely dressed and only minimally worn. Fingernail divots have been filled in along much of the fretboard. The neck angle is good allowing for ample adjustment room under the bridge, and the Vibrola tailpiece works properly. The guitar has been set-up in our shop with 10-46 strings and slinky action.
With original hardshell case
