2013 Lowden S-35 Lefty

An exceptionally rare and beautiful left-handed Lowden S-35 with cocobolo back and sides, redwood top, figured maple bindings and pearl rosette. Left-handed Lowdens are impossibly hard to come by and always of great excitement to us when they show up here at Folkway. Particularly so when they feature quartersawn Cocobolo that’s as gorgeous as this guitar’s back and side tonewood.

Lowden’s S size body measures about 14-3/4” inches across the lower bout and is roughly the width of a 00 Martin or a classical guitar. Its body outline is entirely unique, though, and features a tighter waist that allows the guitar to sit lower and therefor feel smaller. With a depth of 4-1/8” at the endpin, the S-size offers a little bit more air volume than other guitars its size, and consequently more warmth and bass response.

A uniquely balanced fingerstyle guitar with ample fundamental presence, this guitar has excellent focus, strength through the upper mid-range, and the characteristic treble-end sparkle that’s such a big part of Lowden tone.

This example appears just about new. There isn’t any playwear to speak of, and our set up is just right for a medium fingerstyle attack. The neck has a low C carve, 1-3/4” nut, and scale length of 24.8” scale.
