c.1962 Martin Style 51 Baritone
Martin offered their first Baritone Ukulele model - the Style 51 - in 1960. It remained in regular production through 1984, and in the catalog until 1994, when the company abandoned ukulele sales. The Style 51 was appointed the same as the Style 1T Tenor, with black bindings to its body accented with white top purflings around the top, a single ring rosette, and simple ivoroid fingerboard dots. The body is mahogany, and the fretboard and bridge are rosewood. The simply appointed headstock features the typical C.F. Martin decal in ukulele proportions, and a set of Waverly tuners.
This is a lovely sounding example that is completely original. Apart from a glued and cleated center seam separation it is in excellent condition and shows next to no playwear. It’s been set-up here at Folkway and plays easily with low action. The frets are perfect, too.
Nut width of 1-11/32”, scale of 20”, tuned DGBE like a standard guitar.
With original hardshell case
