1967 Guild Starfire XII

The Guild Starfire XII was the 12-string version of Guild’s popular Starfire line. It was offered from 1966 through the mid-70s in response to the popular demand for all things 12 string in those years. This example is from the second year of production, and lists Hoboken, NJ on it’s label; suggesting it’s among the last instruments to come out of that factory before the move Westerly.

In quite lovely condition, this Starfire XII is completely original but for the bridge, which has been replaced with a ABR1 mounted to the body. While not an original design, the Gibson-style Tune-O-Matic is a real upgrade to the guitar’s tuning stability, intonation and set-up, and makes the guitar so much more usable and reliable. We’re fans of the mod.

16-3/8” thin semi hollow double-cut body with solid center block and laminate maple top and back, triple-bound body, single-bound rosewood fingerboard, and pearloid headstock inlays. Guild humbucker pickups, original wiring and hardware, and original finish throughout. The neck has a compact C carve and a nice feel; It’s about the size of a standard 6 string neck, with a nut width of 1-5/8”. It plays fast and easily, and it’s been set up here at Folkway. Frets are in good shape and play cleanly, too.
