2011 Gibson Woody Guthrie Southern Jumbo

The Gibson Woody Guthrie Southern Jumbo is a loose recreation of the 1943 ‘Banner’ Gibson SJ that Woody played in the late ‘40s and ’50s. You’ll need to provide your own “This Machine Kills Fascists” sticker though, as Gibson didn’t go all the way on the reproduction! Woody’s original Banner was a 1943 rosewood and red spruce model, if you’re going to get picky about the details.

Mahogany and Sitka spruce, scalloped braces, wartime bindings, rosette, firestripe pickguard, and belly-down bridge. Unbound rosewood fretboard with pearl double parallelogram inlays and 20 frets. 1-23/32 nut, 24.75” scale, and 2-3/16” string spread at the bridge. The LR Baggs Element pickup is factory installed.

The guitar is in very fine condition and shows little wear. The first few frets show shallow string grooves and play cleanly, and the action is set up comfortably low. There is finish cracking along the glue joints of the headstock edges where we’ve glued a slightly loose seam. The balance of the guitar’s finish is in remarkably good condition.

A warm and darkly voiced Gibson Jumbo.
