A local, one-owner Gibson LG-3 that remains in excellent condition. Gibson’s LG-3 was the higher-priced natural-finished version of the popular LG-2. It features an X braced spruce top and mahogany back and sides, rectangle bridge, and 24.75” scale. This example is open and warm, with a nice push in the mid-range, sweet trebles, and a defined low end.

The guitar is almost crack-free; its only repaired crack is along the inside margin of the pickguard, where almost all 1955-63 Gibsons crack. The repair is tidy and well done. The balance of the guitar is without issue, the braces are all well attached, the original small maple bridge plate is in excellent shape, and the original finish shows fairly light wear. Apart from new bridge pins and a bone saddle, the guitar is completely original.

The neck has a full feeling round 1950’s carve, with 1-11/16” nutwidth and a 1st fret depth of .935”. The setup was recently done here at Folkway, and the guitar plays easily with an action of 5-7 64ths at the 12th fret. The original frets show some wear in the first position.
