Iris DF Aged Lefty

When the folks at Iris let us know that they had found themselves with a left-handed sunburst DF model with distressed finish that needed a home we jumped at the opportunity. The DF is quite likely our most popular Iris model, we love having unique lefty guitars to offer, and the aging that Dale and the finish gang at Iris do is some of the best in the biz. We couldn’t say no! On top of all that, this guitar was built with a special red spruce top, harvested some 30 years ago by our friend TJ Thompson. We knew it was going to be a special one.

The DF is a slope-shouldered Jumbo model with Mahogany back and sides and scalloped braces. It takes some design inspiration both from Gibson’s prewar J-55 and the post-war J-45 but features a 25” scale, and a lighter build. The neck has a vintage feel, with a rounded carve and 1-3/4” nut, and strings taper to pre-war 2-5/16” at the bridge. Katalox fingerboard and small rectangle bridge, bone nut and saddle, and thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish.

The guitar is huge fun to play, wonderfully resonant and responsive, and offers excellent string balance, plenty of volume and a quick attack. It’s a great flat-picker and awesome strummer.
