Chris Lounsbury L-00 Tuxedo

This L-00 inspired guitar is the work of Hamilton's Chris Lounsbury. Lounsbury, a former student of Sergei de Jonge, has been hard at it over the last few years consistently building excellent quality guitars one at a time in his one-man shop.

This example is inspired by the early 1930's black and white Gibson L-00s. The vintage influence coupled with Lounsbury's informed and thoughtful building approach has yielded an excellent sounding L-00 size guitar. This is the first guitar he has made in this style - we hope it's not the last!

Played with a light touch, the guitar's voice is nuanced and balanced - mids and trebles are forward with a present, but not overpowering bass. When played with a pick the guitar is extremely articulate and responds fast.

The gloss black lacquer finish, in contrast with the ivoroid appointments, is striking. To attain this quality of finish on a handmade guitar is not easy - the task was undertaken by Lounsbury with the input uber-talented finish wizard Joseph Yanuziello.

The neck carve is a welcome departure from vintage spec, feeling more modern than the V of a 30's 14 fret Gibson. The headstock shape is classy and nods slightly at its inspiration, and the Ivoroid Great Lakes headstock inlay is a unique and well executed touch.

Sitka Spruce top, Mahogany back and sides, Ebony fingerboard and bridge, Golden Age tuners, ivoroid inlays and trim througout. Scalloped X bracing, small maple bridge plate and light build. 1-3/4" nut width, 2-5/16 " string spacing at the bridge and a scale length of 24-3/4".

Hardshell case.
