Matt Arcara is a luthier and championship flatpicker who’s inspiration is deeply rooted in 1930s flattops. He’s a contemporary of John Slobod and Julius Borges and an important member of the New England guitarmaking network.

This D2 Honduran is powerhouse of a dreadnought that loves a heavy flatpick and a hard attack. It features quartersawn Honduran rosewood back and sides and a master-grade red spruce top with forward scalloped X bracing. Ebony board, bridge, bindings, and headstock overlay, style 21 trim and a slightly oversized 4.125” soundhole. The neck has a 1930s feel, with a soft V carve, 1-3/4” nutwidth and 1st fret depth of .868”. The second fret neck thickness measures .848. Built with a carbon neck stiffener in lieu of a truss rod and fretted with large stainless frets, this guitar is all about flat-picking.

Set up in shop with 13-56 strings and 5-6 action, this Arcara is seriously fun to play. It’s responsive and quick, and offers huge headroom, a strong and clean fundamental, and excellent note separation – all critical components of a great bluegrass dread.

In excellent condition with not much playwear, a few scratches and small dings here and there, and no repairs or issues.
