With its Granadillo back and sides, Pre-War’s International OM-G model offers a tone similar to that of a South American rosewood in a guitar that’s legal and simple to ship internationally. This example was sold new through our shop about 6 years ago; it was ordered with Level 1 (very light) distressing and has very fine and attractive lacquer crazing throughout but no mechanical wear.
The Pre-War OM is built with a scalloped-braced red spruce top and assembled with hide glue. It features herringbone appointments, ebony fingerboard and bridge, through-cut bone saddle, diamond and square inlays, and a decidedly 30s neck carve with an extremely comfortable C carve, 1-3/4” nut and 2-5/16” string spacing at the saddle. The tuner machines are Waverlys, which were a factory upgrade when we originally ordered this guitar. Since then, we’ve installed a K+K Trinity Solo mic/transducer combination pickup and a strap button was installed on the neck heel. The guitar has been set-up in shop. It is strung with 12’s and has an action of 6-6 64ths.
A wonderful sounding OM-G, the Pre-War has a well-developed thick and dark tone that’s nicely defined thanks to the Granadillo’s sonic character. It’s very much a 30s kind of tone, more-so than we’ve heard from most other modern production instruments. Very responsive, warm, open, and balanced. The guitar enjoys any intensity of attack and offers exceptional tone to fingerstyle and flatpicked approaches equally. It remains in perfect condition and shows only the smallest amount of fretwear.
