c.1983 Larrivée L-27 Cutaway

Built in the Victoria, BC shop at a time when Larrivée guitars had a workforce of about ten people, this L-27 cut-away features master-grade Sitka spruce and Indian rosewood, a Florentine cut-away, beautiful marquetry and mitred purflings, and pearl eagle inlay by Wendy Larrivée. It’s an exquisite example of what many feel is the pinnacle of Canadian guitar manufacturing, and it remains in beautiful condition some forty years on.

L-sized body that measures about 16” wide across the lower bout, this L-27 is built with a 25.6” scale and Larrivée-pattern X bracing. The neck has a softened V carve and a nut width of 1-3/4”. Neck depth at the first fret is .885”, which imparts a comfortably full feel. Ebony fingerboard and bridge, bone nut and saddle, Schaller tuning machines, ebony bridge pins.

The guitar is in stunning condition and is crack-free. Playwear is minimal, and the original frets have recently been dressed for optimal playability. The set-up is fresh; the guitar’s action is 5-6 64ths with 12-53 strings. No repairs or issues and the guitar is original apart from an added strap-button and enlarged end-pin hole from a removed pickup.

A balanced guitar with a clear fundamental that responds well to a medium attack, this Larrivée is a versatile instrument that’s equally well suited to strumming or fingerstyle.
