1954 Martin D-18
This ‘50s D-18 is one for the player for whom tone is the ultimate goal. With clarity, note definition, power, huge headroom and volume, amazing balance, strong bass AND bold trebles, this D-18 isn’t lacking in any way. It’s a flatpicker’s delight when strung with a set of mediums and offers up a beautifully warm and dark voice when strung with 12s.
The guitar shows playwear, dings, scratches and dents as would be typical of a 60 year old guitar but is structurally excellent, with no repairs other than a single 4” back crack, neck reset, refret, and new saddle. No top cracks, no side cracks, no reglued braces and original finish throughout. Original tuners, nut, bridge and original bridge plate. Two small, filled-in screw holes in the headstock face, and an added strap button.
The frets appear to be fairly recent, setup is 5-6 64ths at the 12th fret with 1/8” of saddle and a full height bridge. Classic 50’s neck carve with compact feel in the first position and fuller feel higher up. 1-11/16” nut, 2-1/8” string spread at the bridge. Neck depth at the 1st fret is .847.
Mahogany back and sides, taper-braced Sitka spruce top, tortoise-shell bindings with end-grain ivoroid purfling. Kluson tuning machines, replacement black bridge pins and endpin.
With modern deluxe hardshell case
