1974 Larrivee Classical
Jean Larrivée's guitar building career began in 1967 with a year and a half apprenticeship with respected classical builder Edgar Monch. In the decade that followed, Jean Larrivee set up shop in Toronto, building the finest guitars yet to have been built in Canada. It was during this period that many of this country's most renowned guitar builders were learning their trade under Jean's watchful eye: Grit Laskin, Linda Manzer, David Wren, Serge DeJonge and others were employed by Larrivée in those early years and were well equipped to flourish in their own careers by the time Jean moved his family and his guitar building to Canada’s west coast in 1977.
This Classical is a fairly early example of what has become the hallmark of Canadian guitar building. It features back and sides of Indian rosewood, European spruce top, ebony fingerboard, and the mosaic rosette typical of early Larrivee guitars. The body is fairly uniform in depth, tapering from 4" at the tail to 3.75" at the neck heel; with an extra air volume imparting an enhanced bass and overall warmth. The guitar is in excellent condition and is well set up. It’s a well-cared for one-owner instrument and there are no cracks or repairs to mention. 52mm nut width, 58mm string spread at the saddle, 660mm scale. Set up with normal tension strings and an action of 2.5 to 3.5mm. Label signed by Jean Larrivée.
With original hardshell case
