2016 Martin Custom Shop D-14
A custom ordered Dreadnought built by Martin’s Custom Shop in 2016, this D-14 features back and sides of Guatemalan rosewood and an Adirondack red spruce top with Golden Era forward-shifted scalloped bracing. Appointed with vintage Style 21 accents, this is a great looking guitar, and one that’s not quite a vintage reissue but is most certainly vintage inspired.
The guitar features tortoise bindings, and wooden Style 18 purflings and rosette. The bevelled-edge pickguard is a thing of beauty. Ebony fretboard with style 18/21 dot inlays, ebony 30’s style belly bridge with drop-in bone saddle and ebony-pearl-dot pins. The square headstock features a Guatemalan rosewood overlay, old-style logo, bone flat-bottomed nut, and Gotoh vintage style tuning machines. The neck is built with Martin’s popular Modified Low Oval carve / Performing Artist taper, which translates to a 1-3/4” nut width, 1st fret depth of .821”, 2-3/16” string spread at the saddle, and 25.4” scale.
In remarkably clean condition, this Martin Custom Shop Dreadnought presents beautifully. The first few frets show very light wear, and the guitar’s finish shows just about no playwear. The waist sections of binding were cleanly repaired in our shop, and we’ve set it up with mediums and standard 5-6 action.
A bold guitar with a darkly hued voice, this vintage-braced Martin Dreadnought is a strong flatpicker and strummer. It was ordered with ¼” wide tonebars, which, along with the forward positioned scalloped bracing, opens up the low-end and adds to overtone development.
With original hardshell case
