The Atkin Small Jumbo (ASJ) is a modern interpretation of Gibson’s 50s J-185 model, which is widely considered to be one of the best strummers ever designed. Faithful to its inspiration, the ASJ is built with a 16” jumbo body, torrefied Sitka spruce top and figured maple back & sides that’s multi-bound and finished in a lightly aged sunburst-to-all-sides finish. The C-shaped mahogany neck features a long-scale bound rosewood fretboard with pearl inlays, strip Kluson tuners, and pearl headstock inlays. First fret neck depth is .840”, 1-11/16” nut width, and the bridge string spread is just under 2-1/4”.
With scalloped top bracing, a light build, and a maple jumbo body, the ASJ is a fabulously responsive strummer that sounds great with a medium attack. Strummed lightly or played fingerstyle, the guitar is quite touch-sensitive and dynamic, allowing overtones to flower with very little input. String balance is quite even, with strong trebles that are proportionally balanced by a warm low end and well supported by a present midrange.
A gorgeous guitar that is remarkably comfortable to play and quite beautiful to listen to, the ASJ became an instant shop favorite upon its arrival.
With deluxe hardshell case.
