One of Martin's longest-running production models, the 00-21 remained a 12-fretter with a slotted headstock for decades after most models were given 14 fret necks and solid headstocks in the early 1930s. In the 1970s, keeping the 00-21 in production was one of the best decisions Martin had made! These guitars are just wonderful instruments.
Featuring a 00-sized 12 fret body of Indian rosewood and what is most likely German spruce, the 00-21 has a rich and fairly dark tone. It offers excellent sting-to-string balance, and very supportive mids with good strength. It's a lovely fingerstyle guitar. While not really a 'strummer', the guitar responds well to a controlled flat-pick.
We’ve just reset the neck, reglued the pickguard and repaired the B-string pickguard crack, which was the guitar’s only crack. New saddle and a light dressing of the original frets followed, and we’ve set up the guitar with low fingerstyle action and 12-54 strings. It's in excellent condition with original gorgeous finish and very little playwear, and sports a professionally installed K&K pickup, which sounds lovely.
Rounded neck carve with a nut width just shy of 1-7/8” and a scale of 24.9”. Neck thickness measures .865” at the 1st fret and 1.006” at the 9th. 2-5/16” string spacing at the saddle. 3lbs 14oz.
