A founding member of the legendary Southern Rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gary Rossington helped shape the sound and direction of Rock n’ Roll in the 1970s. His slide guitar work help give ‘Free Bird’ its wings - so to speak - and his playing was immeasurably influential on so many up-and-coming guitarists in the decades that have followed. Rossington survived the plane crash that killed many other Skynyrd members and is, today, the last surviving member of the band’s original lineup.

In 2002 Gibson’s Custom Shop teamed up with Rossington to recreate his personal 1959 Les Paul in great detail. A limited run of 250 Gary Rossington Les Pauls were built, complete with exactingly reproduced wear, historic modifications, and feel. The screws in the headstock match those in Rossington’s ’59, which help hold the original’s headstock break closed, but thankfully Gibson stopped short of actually replicating the break in the recreation!

This example weighs 9.7 lbs and shows no playwear to the frets or ‘wear’ beyond what was intentionally built into the instrument’s design.

Fat 1959 neck carve, Classic 57 pickups, Gold Gibson/Schaller tuners, and a flamey top with a beautiful faded burst over a one-piece mahogany body.

This example is #184 of 250 guitars. It comes with its original case, COA, and wall-hanging display case (not pictured).
