Fender's Jaguar was the company's top-of-the-line model upon its introduction in the spring of 1962. This new professional-level model featured the same rhythm circuit and offset body styling of the Jazzmaster, while boasting more power and brightness, more lead circuit tone options and switching, better shielding against 60 cycle hum and a 24" scale length for ease of playability.

Like the Stratocaster and Jazzmaster, the Jaguar's standard finish was Sunburst, however it isn’t terribly uncommon to find Jaguars finished in custom colours like Olympic White, Lake Placid Blue, and Candy Apple Red. This example finished in Black is among the rarest of the custom colours encountered from this era.

The finish remains in very good condition, with playwear typical of an instrument of this vintage. There are minor dings and scratches on the guitar and some buckle rash on its back. It is completely original apart from a single bridge tension spring and replacement foam under the pickups and on the bridge mute. There is a single solder joint that looks to have been touched up on the base of the neck pickup, likely repaired when the pickup foam was replaced. The pickups themselves are completely original and unmodified. A truly remarkable example of a Pre-CBS custom color instrument, this 1964 Fender Jaguar in factory-original Black lacquer is a striking guitar.

Offering a voice with incredible mid-forward bloom and warmth while delivering exceptional string balance and note separation, this Jaguar is a testament to the quality of Pre-CBS Fender instruments. The neck profile, with a depth of 0.795"  at the first fret and 0.972" at the twelfth, has a fabulously comfortable feel with a very natural taper. With plenty of life left in the original frets, the guitar offers excellent performance and playability. The guitar weighs in at 7.7 lbs. Pickup DC values are 6.5k and 7.4k.

An incredible and rare piece of Fender history, and a wonderful guitar in every respect.

With original hardshell case.
