Mitch Corbin is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and part-time guitar builder who calls Orlando, Florida his home. He’s a National Flatpicking AND Mandolin champion, having won both at Winfield the same year, and has toured the world guitar in hand. Mitch has built a number of guitars (this one is #20) but doesn’t work as a luthier full-time. His guitars are steeped in traditional design and offer vintage-inspired tone, look, and feel.

This D-18 features a red spruce top with forward placed scalloped X bracing and a decidedly 1930s Martin build, with bridgeplate, brace shaping, side supports, and body geometry modelled after a wide neck Martin D. The neck is carved with a 1-3/4” nut and 30’s taper, with a 2-1/4” string spread at the saddle and a 25.4 scale. The guitar’s body is bound in rosewood and features wooden purflings and rosette. The finish is French polish, fretboard and bridge are ebony, nut and saddle are bone, and the tuners are ebony.

The guitar is fitted with an adjustable truss rod. The neck has a fairly pronounced V carve and a 1st fret thickness of .855”. The neck tapers heavily to a 9th fret thickness of 1.075”.

With its fairly light build, red spruce top, and pre-war styled bracing this guitar has a vintage D-18 kind of voice, with a dry midrange, warm bass, and excellent volume. It’s a capable flat picker and does what its designed to do well.

No cracks or repairs, some light wear to the French polish finish, which is low sheen and quite thin. Frets show very little playwear, set up is comfortable at 5-6 64ths.
