The new Y25 Martin D-28 Satin is identical to the gloss finished version but with, well, satin finish. It’s about C$600 less at the time of this writing.

The new Y25 D-28 is markedly different than the previous version of the company’s most famous model. The standard D-28 now features Golden Era, forward positioned, scalloped sitka bracing, which replaces the straight-bracing Martin has been using on D-28 tops for the past 80 years. This is big news. With this year’s redesign, the D-28 and HD-28 differ only cosmetically, with the D-28 featuring 50s style plastic bindings, checkerboard back strip, and pearl dot inlays versus the HD-28’s herringbone, zigzags, and slotted diamonds. With this bracing upgrade, Martin has loudly acknowledged that 50s D-28 appointments are just as appealing as prewar D-28 appointments to many people, but that most Martin Dreadnought players prefer forward-shifted scalloped-braced tone.

The new D-28 features all of the other Y25 upgrades as well: Martin’s new GE Modified low oval neck carve with a 30s style longer volute, rolled fretboard edges and an angled-bottom nut, and a 30s style belly bridge that’s fit with bone pins and saddle.

The neck features a 1-3/4” nut width, 2-5/32” string spread at the saddle, 25.4” scale, and an .820” neck depth at the 1st fret.

The Y25 Martin D-28 is an incredible guitar in every way and offers an exciting evolution of the most iconic acoustic guitar in the world.
