Introduced in late 1955, Fender's Harvard filled the gap between the Princeton and Deluxe in the company's line of amplifiers. Housed in a cabinet with the same dimensions as the big-box Princeton, the Harvard boasted an upgraded 10" speaker, two 6V6 power tubes, and approximately 10 watts of power.
An excellent example of a "Narrow Panel" tweed amp, this late '57 5F10 Harvard is largely original, apart from a few components replaced as part of general servicing. Both Triad transformers are original to the amplifier. The original Jensen speaker, dating the the 42nd week of '57, is in great working order with a small patch repair making the original cone structurally stable. The original volume and tone pots date to the 38th week of '57. The tube chart and chassis bear stamps of "GK," indicating November 1957 production. The original tweed, grille cloth, handle, and hardware have aged beautifully over the last 68 years and remain in overall good condition.
This amplifier offers responsive and full-bodied cleans at lower volumes, while boasting open, creamy, and harmonically rich breakup tones when pushed. It's a remarkable sounding tweed amp that responds well to just about any pickup that you can imagine.
Having been recently serviced by the GTA's Dom Tantalo, this amp is studio and stage ready. Leaking filter caps have been replaced, with the new capacitors rehoused in the original cylinders in order to preserve the 1950s aesthetic of the circuit. The "death cap" has been replaced with a non-shorting class-Y cap. The original two-prong power cable has been upgraded with a modern grounded cable.
