New for 2025 is a model we’ve been hoping for for the past 25 years. The 000-17 is finally here, and it’s as exciting as we were anticipating. The 000-17 is a model that has never existed as part of the company’s standard series until now. Imagine an unbound 000-18 with a mahogany top and satin finish and you’ve got it figured out. It’s quite different from the company’s 000-15m in that the 17 has a hand-fit dovetailed neck joint, Golden Era scalloped and forward shifted X bracing, a 24.9” scale, 1-3/4” nut width, and ebony fretboard and bridge. It’s a lot more guitar, and the differences are immediately apparent. We suspect that this model will go on to become one of the company’s best selling guitars. It sounds incredible, it’s attractive and well made, its playability is top-notch, and the price-point is positioned perfectly at the base of the standard series price list.
The guitar’s neck feature the GE-Modified low oval carve for a comfortably rounded feel, an angle-bottomed nut, old-style logo, and open geared tuners. String spread at the saddle is 2-5/32”. The saddle, nut, and pins are bone, and the bevelled-edge pickguard is cut from tortoise celluloid and polished to high gloss.
The all-mahogany construction with forward-shifted scalloped bracing offers a dry, woody, and open tone with a touch of sparkle up top and beautifully supported mid-range. Flatpickers and fingerstylists alike will love what the new Martin 000-17 has to offer.
