With its full-width neck, beautiful strummed tone, pretty sunburst finish and excellent playability, this mid-60s Gibson J-45 is a particularly appealing guitar. Among the last of Gibson’s wide-neck J-45s, this example features the steeper headstock angle of the pre-’64 models and a nutwidth of 1-21/32”. The original adjustable bridge and plywood bridge plate have been professionally replaced, the neck angle and fretwork are great, and a recent set-up with 12-54 strings and 5-6 64ths action ensures the best in playability and tone. This guitar loves a light to medium strummed attack with a pick or fingers and compliments one’s voice just beautifully. The classic songwriting companion, a 60’s J-45 has been the muse for some of music’s most highly regarded singers.
In excellent condition with original finish throughout, this guitar’s only crack of note is along the pickguard’s inside margin below the sound hole. There are a few short and tight hairline cracks around the bridge that are well hidden by the top’s finish crazing, a few reglued braces, a bone compensated saddle and a newer set of bridge pins. The tuners, nut, frets, and endpin are original.
The neck has a rounded carve and medium depth and is quite contemporary in feel. First fret depth is .826”, 9th fret depth is .947. 24.75” scale, 2-1/8” string spread at the saddle.
With hardshell case
