Like all the instruments of the ’37’ series, the Atkin OM37 is styled after Martin’s pre-WWII flat tops that brought the steel string guitar into the modern age. With iconic Style 28 trimmings, classic tonewood pairing, scalloped bracing, long 25.4” scale, and a modern-meets-vintage neck carve, the Atkin OM-37 presses all the right buttons for us. The Atkin tonal formula is deeply rooted in vintage voicing and but adds in the clarity and articulation modern high end guitars tend to deliver. Expect a powerful and well balanced voice with a touch of darkness, excellent fundamental presence and mid-range support, and an expressive touch sensitivity. The OM-37 is equally well suited to flatpicking as it is to fingerstyle.
Indian rosewood back and sides, baked Sitka spruce top with scalloped bracing. Ebony fretboard and bridge, herringbone, ivoroid, zigzag, pearl and celluloid accents. The finish has a lovely lightly-aged patina with fine crazing but without any fake mechanical relic work. Bone nut and saddle, aged Gotoh nickel vintage style tuners, pearl-dot bridge pins.
The guitar’s neck has a full-feeling round carve of with vintage depth, a 1-3/4” nut width, and a string spread of 2-1/4” at the saddle. The neck thickness measures .893” at the 1st fret and remains nearly untapered to the 9th fret where it measures just .005” thicker.
With Atkin-branded deluxe hardshell case.
