Pisgah banjos are hand-built in Asheville, North Carolina by a small team of luthiers and admin staff headed by Patrick David Sawyer, who founded the company in 2014. Apart from making great sounding, great looking and great playing banjos, we’re also fans of Pisgah Banjo’s social and environmental practices, which are heavily focused on Appalachian history and culture, environmental stewardship and responsibility, and ethical business. Pisgah Banjos are built from hardwoods entirely sourced in the surrounding Appalachian Mountains, and they run a carbon-neutral shop that’s powered by solar panels on their roof. They also promote banjo history and its African American origins, they’re involved in anti-racism work in partnership with The Black Banjo Reclamation Project, and support the Appalachian reforestation charity, Green Forests Work. Added up, there’s a lot of good reason to be offering Pisgah Banjos here at Folkway.
The Pisgah Roscoe is the company’s most affordable model, but despite it’s budget-friendly price doesn’t compromise on materials, workmanship, tone, or playability. It’s simply a dressed down banjo that’s light on frills but heavy on quality.
12” walnut rim with cherry neck and folk heel. 25.5” short scale Richlite fretboard with standard scoop; squared headstock with Gotoh planetary tuners. Aged brass hardware, renaissance head, maple bridge, and no knot tailpiece. The neck is built with traditional dowel stick construction and features a 2 way truss rod that’s accessible with the neck removed. 1-9/32” nut width, .878” at the 1st fret.
With Pisgah Banjo branded gigbag.
